I was born on the edge of a great lake
In October the autumn edge of the year
I learned to crawl along the edges of a parquet floor
I learned to walk holding the edge of my mother's chesterfield
I stood at the edge of my family looking
Waiting to find a way in to the center
I stood at the edge of life for far to long
so I went to the sea, to the edge of the earth
I lay down on the ground
I felt the mother reach up
and gather my loose ends
and weave them around her
Heated by the warmth of her heart
Illuminated by the light of her love
I can see the edges all around me
I have found the center
